2025 EUREKA! Faculty Project Proposal

EUREKA! 2025 will offer two participation formats: in-person and online. You may choose to mentor a student in-person or online. It is expected that faculty mentors will meet on a weekly basis with assigned students to address concerns, questions, research progress and to foster the mentoring process.

Please use non-technical language in your description as much as possible.

NOTE: The project should be a valid means for teaching research methods to a student. Interns are required to present the results of their summer research via a poster forum (end of summer for online students and early in the fall semester for in-person students). In addition, students are encouraged to present their research at a professional meeting, (e.g., the SC Academy of Science).

Describe how your research intern(s) will be involved. What will they do, individually or as a team? Important: Each year we receive a significant amount of feedback from our program participants stating that assigned research projects were different than expected (based on the project description); please be as specific as possible in your involvement response.

State the skills, experiences, and knowledge required of the intern(s) to participate in this project (specific software experience, specific mathematics knowledge, etc.). If no specific skills are required, type "N/A."

In addition to the poster presentation,what are the expected outcomes of the program and what will the intern(s) know or be able to do (publications, presentations, new software, etc.)? Also, what opportunities might there be for students when they complete their research experience?
